Responsibilities

  • Operates fork lift truck and stackers to move material and finished products from one location to another.

  • Removes metal chips and refuse by hauling to proper containers for recycling or storing.

  • Moves material, product and equipment to and from work area.

  • Loads and unloads trucks, and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.

  • Works from route cards, written and verbal instructions from Leader, salaried personnel, or employee being assisted.

  • Performs other incidental duties as the job dictates and/or as directed by Supervisor.

  • Opens containers.

  • Secures lifting attachments to materials and conveys load to destination.

  • Stacks or assembles materials into bundles and bands bundles together.

  • Lifts heavy objects by hand or with power hoist

Qualifications

  • Ability to drive and operate a fork lift truck a must.

  • Ability to lift materials weighing up to 40 pounds, in order to load and unload trucks.

  • Ability to differentiate between different types of materials.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Some knowledge of different material types is a major plus.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

  • Ability to write simple correspondence.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must be licensed fork lift driver.
