Overview

The Procurement Manager is responsible for developing and monitoring a purchasing and inventory controllership strategy. This role supervises a multi-functional team to oversee vendor selection, price negotiation, forecasting while holding the team accountable for achieving their daily KPI's. Excellent attention to detail, clear and quick thinking, exceptional analytical skills, and a solid understanding of Supply Chain flow is required. The success of a purchasing manager depends largely on building tools and processes to simplify day to day activities of the team. The candidate must have strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively across platforms, and the confidence/comfort in creating, improving and enforcing the company's related policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Cost Control

  • Plan and manage company's overall sourcing strategy

  • Negotiate pricing and control costs to achieve yearly purchase price variance objectives (PPV) to align with project spend budgets

  • Execute analysis and make suggestions for improvement of strategy (volume pricing, blanket agreements, SMI)

  • Manage and direct employees involved in the purchasing process

  • Assist in establishing rhythm for material/operations reviews. Ensure key operational metrics are implemented and understood

  • Stay updated with sales/marketing trends and industry best practices

  • Negotiate and sign long-term agreements with strategic suppliers

  • Recommend and Implement Process Improvements

  • Facilitate planning and execution of value stream Mapping and future state implementation events across the sites.

  • Coordinate and network with other teams to deliver “Best Practice” solutions to the organization.

  • Develop tools, SOPs, and process maps.

  • Define deliverables, manage project budgets, and communicate vision & status to all stakeholders and business leaders.

Inventory Management

  • Lead Warehouse team including shipping, receiving and stockroom personnel

  • Lean Materials Management

  • Lead implementation of pull systems, consumption-based planning and Kanban initiatives

  • Leverage Lean principles, ERP knowledge, and available technologies to improve material flow from supply to fulfillment

  • Drive Inventory Turns and Days on Hand towards entitlement.

  • Lead and facilitate the annual physical inventory (PI).

  • Develop and implement standardized toolkits -- incorporating SOP’s for processes & policies. How to effectively use dashboards, trackers & inventory models.

  • Maximize vendor managed material. Manage supplier relationships, lead negotiations, and track quality, price, and delivery metrics.

  • Enhance processes and procedures for receiving, stocking, handling, and inventory control to reduce waste and increase throughput.

  • Own planning process for setting quarterly inventory forecasts.

  • Control and increase inventory turns through collaboration with Purchasing and Manufacturing to reduce Stock and WIP.

  • Establish robust processes to optimize incoming material flow from vendors.

  • Develop stocking strategies to keep our customers fulfilled without overstocking.

  • Identification of parts to reclassify/scrap/sell to sister sites in collaboration with Engineering, Materials Planner, Purchasing and Sales.

  • Development of processes and strategies to use existing E&O and identify/mitigate future risks to avoid increasing our reserve.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business

  • Minimum 6 years of operations experience in a manufacturing environment with 3 years in a leadership/management role

  • Comprehensive understanding of supply chain planning, warehouse management and stocking strategies

  • ERP Knowledge (Supply Chain Planning, Purchasing, WIP, MRP)

  • MS Office Proficiency– Excel, PowerPoint, Access

  • Lean background and familiarity

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional team to deliver results

  • Proven problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills including delegation, troubleshooting, decision-making

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

  • High level of personal initiative, intuitiveness and assertiveness

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet assigned deadlines

  • Flexibility to work within a matrix and multicultural environment

Desired:

  • MBA or Master’s Degree

  • Education, background or experience in Supply Chain Logistics, Inventory Management, Lean or Sales & Operations Planning

  • Six Sigma Black Belt/Master Black Belt
